POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior Cost Analyst, the Project Cost Analyst will be responsible for providing analysis of the status of construction projects to measure productivity, manage budget, forecast cost and mitigate risk. This position may receive guidance from the Projects Controller, Project Manager or above, but performs essential duties and responsibilities independently. This position supports project teams by analyzing cost and revenue data in order to provide timely & reliable financial information that is meaningful to project management, business units and the organization as a whole. The individual must be able to work independently as well as be a flexible and adaptable team-player and must have strong communication and client service skills.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reconciles job cost to ensure appropriate cost is billed to the owner and communicate contributing factors of over/under variances to the project team for follow-up
  • Assist in project budget set up while supporting and reviewing the accuracy of mark-ups and price conditions
  • Participates in the Earned Value Management Process including productivity reporting for self-perform trades
  • Actively participates in the change management and monthly forecasting processes to understand and identify risk and opportunity
  • Provides analytics of the financial status of construction projects to measure profitability, manage risk, and facilitate project forecast discussions
  • Assists in preparation of monthly project status reports and financial performance
  • Has an understanding and awareness of accounts payable and receivable, and ability to balance project financials with accurate accruals and cash management
  • Aids with external customer requirements such as owner reporting, subcontractor challenges, and joint venture reporting
  • Observes field activities to understand the flow of construction, learn/understand trade scopes of work and help validate project progress metrics
  • Participates in forecasting processes to ensure scope and cost are aligned
  • Completes adhoc reporting as necessary
  • Other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years’ relevant experience in construction industry is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is an asset.
  • Strong financial management acumen: advanced knowledge of accounting procedures and protocols, budget administration, financial forecasting, analysis, and reporting
  • Proven high degree of accuracy, effective time management, strong organizational skills
  • Relevant understanding of construction management principles and processes
  • Strong skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong skills in Box, Jonas Construction, SAP or other ERP experience are an asset
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize activities and work under pressure.
  • Results-oriented and ability to take initiative
